What is Lectio Divina?
Lectio Divina means Divine Reading. It is a way of prayerfully engaging the Scriptures with both mind and heart with the goal of meeting God there. In experiencing God we are transfigured as the Holy Spirit works through the Word of God to transform us into the image of the Son of God (Rom. 8:29).
This involves four elements:
Lectio–Reading Matthew 4:4
Meditatio–Meditation or reflection Joshua 1:8
Oratio–Prayer Ephesians 6:18
Contemplatio–Contemplation or listening to God so that we can live it out and be transformed Psalm 107:28-30
“Let us ruminate, and, as it were, chew the cud, that we may have the sweet juice, spiritual effect, marrow, honey, kernel, taste, comfort and consolation of them.” –Thomas Cranmer, English Reformer
